The Cardiac on Campus Mission:
To advocate for cardiovascular health and awareness among university students, provide opportunities for students to explore health careers, and promote community outreach by volunteering and educating.
Cardiac on Campus was founded by Brittany Derynda and Jessica Miller in 2016 after a sudden cardiac death close to the co-founders' hearts. The student organization has three main goals:
1.) Raise awareness on the UW Madison campus for cardiac health
Cardiac on Campus works closely with the American Heart Association of Madison to promote awareness of cardiac health. The organization's two main events are a 5K Red Tutu Trot run/walk, held in the fall, and Cardiac Courts, held in the spring. Both events are designed to involve UW Madison students in heart-healthy activities as well as to promote conversations about cardiac health among university students. Cardiac on Campus also offers students several opportunities to become CPR trained and certified.

2.) Develop Cardiac on Campus members' professional skills and connections
Cardiac on Campus offers involved students the opportunity to shadow health professionals in the cardiology department at UW Hospital and Clinics. We also host speakers such as physicians, physicians' assistants, researchers, American Heart Association professionals, and nurses. Our bi-weekly meetings are intended to expose pre-health students to different health careers and prepare them for their respective futures.

3.) Engage in the Greater-Madison community and promote volunteering
Cardiac on Campus organizes several volunteer opportunities each semester both alone as well as in conjunction with other campus organizations. We also send club members to numerous American Heart Association events to support their local efforts. By offering volunteer opportunities to our members we hope to extend our influences around the Madison area.
